The world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, which set sail from Turku last year, has been sent to dock in Miami, USA, due to a technical issue. The news was first reported by the Finnish outlet Turun Sanomat. Royal Caribbean has announced the cancellation of upcoming cruises for the Icon of the Seas. According to Miami-based news channel WPLG, the cruise liner will undergo unscheduled maintenance.
Currently, the Icon of the Seas is located north of Puerto Rico en route to Miami, as reported by Marine Traffic. Passengers who had booked cruises will be compensated for their trips. Royal Caribbean stated that its staff is working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The maintenance is expected to take several days.
The Icon of the Seas embarked on its maiden voyage from Miami in January of this year and was constructed at the Meyer Turku shipyard. The shipyard is currently building the second and third vessels in the Icon series. Additionally, a fourth Icon vessel has been ordered, along with options for a fifth and sixth ship.
