Plans for the Suduroy Tunnel are set to begin with the presentation of the budget proposal for next year on Monday.

Yesterday, the Parliament unanimously approved the decision to take over the Investment Fund, effective January 1, 2025. Established in 1964, the fund currently holds 653 million Danish krone.

The Prime Minister has indicated that approximately half of the available funds will be allocated to the Suduroy Tunnel, while the other half will go towards building a new terminal at the airport.

In the proposed budget, 100 million krone will be earmarked for the Suduroy Tunnel, which is estimated to cost around four billion krone, including roads and tunnels associated with the construction.

This budget allocation is confirmed for 2025. However, concerns remain regarding the total cost of the Suduroy Tunnel. Questions arise about how the political system intends to ensure that expenses do not exceed the projected four billion krone, especially if safety measures need to be enhanced.

We will be discussing these issues with the Prime Minister and Erhard Joensen, a member of Parliament involved in the political working group.

In related political news, Minister Ingilín Strøm allegedly misled Parliament by claiming she had not received indications that Bústaðir’s long-term sustainability was at risk. Opposition parties have called for her resignation over this matter.
