On Monday, an aggressive dog escaped from an apartment in Vallila, Helsinki, and bit a boy under ten years old. The child’s injuries required hospital treatment. The dog, which had been confiscated by the police, has now been returned to its owner. The decision to return the pet was made after rapid investigations determined that there was only one known attack on a human, and the home conditions did not provide an animal welfare basis for it to be taken away.

According to the investigation leader, Katariina Rinne from the Helsinki police, it is up to the court to decide whether the animal is dangerous and whether it should be put down or not.

The owner has not been accused of letting the dog roam freely, and it is believed that the dog’s escape was an accident. Currently, the dog’s owner is suspected of causing bodily harm and leaving the animal unattended. The dog is an American Pit Bull Terrier, also known simply as a Pit Bull.
