AI set to shape Sweden’s first election with technology

One in ten Swedish voters already use AI to answer political questions ahead of the 2026 parliamentary election, according to a survey by the Swedish Internet Foundation, with young voters leading the trend.

A British study suggests AI may be more effective than politicians at changing voters’ opinions, a development psychiatrist Anders Hansen attributes to a human tendency to trust clear, direct information.

“We’re hardwired to believe what’s clear,” Hansen said, warning that AI’s apparent clarity can create a false impression of accuracy and neutrality. He advises voters to use AI to map party positions, then switch it off and verify the facts independently.

Understanding one’s own worldview, he argues, is key to making the most of AI technology.
