In a noteworthy development ahead of the 2024 presidential elections, ten out of twelve candidates have submitted their financial disclosures or statements regarding campaign expenses to the National Audit Office. The deadline for submissions is set for midnight, with all candidates required to file a financial report within three months following the election day, unless their campaign costs fall below 550,000 krónur, in which case filing is optional but encouraged.

The National Audit Office has already begun reviewing the disclosures received. The official publication of the financial reports is expected later this week, which will provide insights into how much candidates have invested in their campaigns and their funding sources.

Eiríkur Ingi Jóhannsson was the first to submit his financial documents on August 20. Other candidates followed suit as the deadline approached. Currently, the only two candidates yet to file their financial reports or expense statements are Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir and Viktor Traustason.

The candidates who have submitted their documents include:

– Arnar Þór Jónsson
– Ásdís Rán Gunnarsdóttir
– Ástþór Magnússon Wium
– Baldur Þórhallsson
– Eiríkur Ingi Jóhannsson
– Halla Hrund Logadóttir
– Halla Tómasdóttir
– Helga Þórisdóttir
– Jón Gnarr
– Katrín Jakobsdóttir

As the election draws closer, the scrutiny of campaign financing remains a significant focus, aiming for transparency in the electoral process.
