Nine couples tie the knot in unique drop-in wedding ceremony on Golsfjellet, Norway
In a picturesque setting atop Ørterhøvda on Golsfjellet, nine couples exchanged vows in a unique and rapid ceremony officiated by mountain priest Vetle Styve Sæbø. This event coincided with the royal wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett, yet the couples opted for a more intimate atmosphere under the sunlit sky.
The priest noted this ceremony marked a personal milestone, stating, “It’s a new record for me.” Each couple arrived at the mountaintop using a ski lift, with some brides donning traditional wedding dresses and others wearing bunads, a Norwegian folk costume. A total of 350 guests participated in this special occasion.
Surprisingly, none of the couples were informed about the details of the ceremony beforehand. Each couple had a designated time for their vows, which allowed them to then scatter to their individual wedding celebrations.
Thorunn Haugo, secretary of Gol and Herad parish and Hemsedal Church Council, highlighted the appeal of this streamlined wedding experience. “We have a ready-made package for them; they just need to show up. Many of these couples prefer a simple approach without too much fuss,” she explained. The trend of so-called drop-in weddings is on the rise, catering to those who may find traditional church ceremonies stressful or who seek a natural backdrop for their vows.
Both couples and their guests were treated to breathtaking views on Golsfjellet, creating an unforgettable wedding experience amidst nature’s splendor.
