Search efforts for a missing 16-year-old girl in Riihimäki, Finland, have drawn large crowds of volunteers over the weekend. However, the command center for the search has become overwhelmed with the influx of dozens of new volunteers. The area is now congested with vehicles, prompting the closure of the site, as first reported by Aamuposti.

Tommi Mattila, the regional preparedness manager for the voluntary rescue service in Hämeen, stated on Tuesday evening that while the community’s willingness to help is commendable, the large numbers present also pose challenges. “Trained volunteers are focused on the areas designated for search by the police. However, managing and guiding the new volunteers has drained energy from the ongoing search efforts,” Mattila remarked.

He emphasized the importance of vigilance for residents in Kanta-Häme and the Riihimäki area: “If someone matching the description of the missing person is spotted, it should be reported to the emergency services as per police guidelines.”

Mattila advised residents to check their properties, outbuildings, and other potential locations multiple times a day, highlighting that experience shows missing individuals may move and seek shelter in various places over the course of several days.
