Triplets Malene, Sunniva, and Steffen Lauritsen Lundekvam from Førde celebrate obtaining driver’s licenses on their 18th birthday
Triplets Malene, Sunniva, and Steffen Lauritsen Lundekvam from Førde in Sunnfjord all obtained their driver’s licenses on the same day they turned 18. Their parents experienced a unique challenge during their learning process, as they had to take the same driving route three times for each child.
Triplet births have become increasingly rare in Norway, with only ten such births recorded in 2006, the same year the triplets were born. Now, they face a new challenge: competing for the same car.
“This is something we have been waiting for a long time,” the trio expressed in unison. Most can relate to the excitement and nerves before a driving test. Though the siblings are accustomed to doing most things together, they had to take the driving test separately. “I was really nervous for my siblings. Once Malene passed, I felt relief and could focus on myself,” remarked Sunniva.
On the same day they turned 18, the triplets took their driving tests at staggered times: Malene at 08:10, Sunniva at 10:50, and Steffen at 14:10. “I felt joy when I got my license, but the greatest joy came when everyone had passed,” said Malene. Their parents, who had to endure the unique experience of three driving tests, were also relieved. “They were quite fatigued by the end,” laughed Sunniva.
As they celebrate their new licenses, a new challenge arises: “Sadly, we have to fight over the same car,” Steffen commented. This time, Malene emerged victorious, having held her license for just a few hours longer than her siblings.
