Officer charged after viral arrest video in Aarhus
A police officer in Aarhus is under investigation after videos showing an apparent kick to a detainee lying on the ground went viral on social media last weekend, DR Verifierer reports.
The Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP) has launched an inquiry into the incident, which has sparked widespread debate after being shared millions of times on platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit.
DR Verifierer analyzed five video clips from three different sources, cross-referencing visuals and audio to reconstruct the sequence of events. The footage confirms two separate arrests: a 34-year-old man initially detained near a gray Volvo, and a 27-year-old man who appears to be kicked by an officer.
In the first arrest, the 34-year-old is seen restrained on the ground by a dog handler in a dark blue shirt. Two men, including the 27-year-old in blue shorts, are heard shouting at the officers. The dog handler later approaches them, signaling them to leave the area near the intersection of Hasle Ringvej and Herredsvej.
Moments later, the 27-year-old is heard being told, “You are under arrest,” followed by the phrase, “Come here, you stupid perker.” Two videos from different angles confirm the same voice delivers both lines.
The next available footage cuts to the 27-year-old fleeing from police. The exact moment of the alleged kick is not captured in the verified clips, leaving a gap in the timeline.
DR Verifierer verified locations via street signs and cross-checked individuals through clothing and voices. Authorities, including Østjyllands Politi and the officer’s lawyer, have declined to comment on the lead-up to the 34-year-old’s arrest. The lawyer for both detainees, Tobias Engby, also declined to elaborate.
