Police operation in Hafnarfjörður leads to successful surrender of firearm after negotiation

In an operation in Hafnarfjörður this evening, special police units were summoned to assist after an individual initially refused to surrender his firearm. The police’s original mission involved revoking the person’s gun permit and attempting to retrieve the registered weapon. The individual reacted defensively to the police’s request at first.

To manage the situation, negotiation specialists alongside the State Police’s special forces were brought in for support and reassurance. Following discussions with the negotiators, the man eventually complied and was taken into custody.

The operation lasted approximately two hours, from around six to eight o’clock in the evening.
