Court sentences two men over Seinäjoki basement killing
South Ostrobothnia District Court has sentenced two men to prison for manslaughter in the Seinäjoki basement killing, Yle reported. Tero Vuohenoja was sentenced to 10 years and Pertti Hautamäki to eight years.
The victim, about 40, was found in the basement of an apartment building in the Kasperi district of Seinäjoki in June 2021. The person had last been seen alive in late November 2020.
The men, aged 35 and 55, both denied the charges. Prosecutors had sought life sentences for murder. The court found them guilty of manslaughter.
The older man was released after the trial to await the verdict, but was arrested again two days later. The court cited a risk that he could continue committing crimes. The younger man has been in custody since May in a separate case, in which he is accused of murder and attempted manslaughter in Kasperi on May 24. Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence in that case as well.
