Doctor recommends water and salt to ease hangovers
Drink plenty of water, eat salty food and rest to help ease a hangover, doctor and professor Torben Moos of Aalborg University advises in an article published by DR.
His advice comes after J-day, when Christmas beer went on tap at bars and pubs across Denmark, an occasion that often draws more people out for a night on the town.
Drink water and eat salty food
Moos says alcohol-related fluid loss should be replenished with plenty of water. But water alone is not enough: the body also needs salt to recover, he says.
He suggests eating salty food, such as a sandwich with salami and remoulade, with extra salt. Other salty foods can also work.
Use pain relief only as directed
If water, salt and rest do not provide enough relief, Moos says a Panodil tablet may be needed for a headache. He stresses that it should be taken only in the recommended amount.
Prepare before going to sleep
Moos advises drinking water and eating salty food before going to bed, rather than waiting until the hangover starts. Taking those steps beforehand can make the following day easier, he says.
