Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) will cap fares for contactless tickets at the price of a day ticket from November 2, Yle reports. The change is intended to make it easier for passengers to choose between single and day tickets.
The cap starts with the first ticket purchase. HSL will add together ticket fares paid with the same payment method, and stop charging for further journeys once the total reaches the price of a day ticket.
Passengers must still tap their payment card on the reader for every journey, including after reaching the cap, so the valid ticket is registered. A physical card and the same card stored in a mobile wallet count as separate payment methods.
The cap applies to one passenger. When contactless payment is used to buy tickets for several adults, the purchases accrue only one price cap. The cap applies only to contactless tickets, not tickets bought through the HSL app. The price of a day ticket depends on the zones travelled.
