Trade federation urges government to rethink Loftbrú changes
The Icelandic Federation of Commercial Workers (LÍV) has criticised planned changes to the Loftbrú travel subsidy scheme and called on the government to reconsider them, mbl.is reports.
Transport is highly important to LÍV members, the federation said. Loftbrú plays a significant role in ensuring equal access for people across Iceland and helping those outside the capital reach centralised services there.
The federation said there were good arguments for tightening the rules on how the subsidies can be used and increasing the funding available. It added that the stated aim of making the scheme more predictable did not appear to take the needs of its users into account.
LÍV’s board said the proposed changes could have a substantial negative impact on people who live far from centralised services in the capital.
