Faroese lawmakers have agreed to double the energy subsidy for households this year, KVF reports. The parliament’s welfare committee supports the government’s proposal, which is due for a second reading and vote on November 4.
Households would be able to apply for an additional 5,000 kroner, bringing the total subsidy this year to 10,000 kroner. The application deadline would be November 25.
About 400 households received the subsidy in the first application round this year. The government expects a similar number to apply in the second round, at a cost of two million kroner.
The government says the money is available from a surplus in the 2026 family allowance budget, so no supplementary appropriation is needed. The energy subsidy scheme will expire at the end of the year and will not be extended.
