Turku’s new music hall Fuuga opens its doors to the public
Turku’s new music hall Fuuga is opening to the public for the first time on Monday, Yle reports. A ceremony is being held outside the building at 10 a.m., followed by tours of its interior.
Small ensembles from the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra are performing in the foyer during the day. The programme also includes a discussion and an evening concert there.
Visitors can see the 1,300-seat concert hall, but its first concert is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12.
Fuuga director Samppa Rinne said the public tours sold out within a couple of hours, with 4,000 people booked to attend. He said that could give an indication of how many people would come to the opening.
Construction began in autumn 2023. The building was delivered through an alliance model involving the City of Turku, Hartela, PES Architects and WSP Finland. The schedule and budget matched plans made three years earlier, with the total cost reaching about 90 million euros.
