Helsinki stabbing suspect remanded as 13-year-old leaves hospital
A man suspected of stabbing a 13-year-old boy in Helsinki has been remanded in custody, while the boy has been discharged from hospital, Yle reports.
The boy was stabbed in the back in Vesala, a district of Helsinki, last Wednesday. He spent several days in hospital and has since been interviewed by police. He is not in life-threatening danger, police said.
Police said the boy was chosen at random and did not know the suspect. The man, who is suspected of attempted manslaughter, was remanded last Friday. Police describe him as born in the 2000s, a Finnish citizen and born abroad.
Investigators have also interviewed the suspect and several witnesses. Police received a report from bystanders on Wednesday afternoon and arrested the suspect at a private residence in Vesala. They are awaiting a medical statement and will conduct further interviews and technical investigations. Police have not commented on the motive, citing investigative reasons.
