Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Greenland, Iceland and Norway began talks on mackerel in London on Tuesday, KVF reported. The negotiations are due to continue on Wednesday and Thursday.
Last week, the coastal states agreed on total quotas for blue whiting and herring in 2027. The blue whiting quota is 1,064,191 tonnes, while the herring quota is 588,004 tonnes. Both quotas follow recommendations from fisheries scientists at ICES.
Under the current allocation, the Faroese blue whiting quota will be nearly 380,000 tonnes, 75,000 tonnes more than this year. The herring quota will be nearly 60,000 tonnes, just over 5,000 tonnes more than this year.
