The University of the Faroe Islands secured a record 29.3 million kroner for research in 2025, a 68 per cent increase from 2024, KVF reported. Researchers obtained the funding themselves.

Funding from outside the Faroe Islands accounted for much of the increase. Support from Faroese funds and other sources also grew.

The university had 183 research staff in 2025, up from 176 in 2024. Of those, 58 had research duties, compared with 48 the previous year.

The number of PhD students at the university increased by 68 per cent between 2020 and 2025, the university said.
