One person has been arrested in connection with a fire that severely damaged an apartment building in Lappeenranta, according to the police in South Karelia. The suspect was detained following a ruling by the South Karelia District Court last Thursday. The police are investigating the incident as an aggravated act of arson. Currently, no other suspects have been identified.

The fire occurred in early August in a six-story building on Orioninkatu, affecting an apartment on the first floor, which was significantly damaged. The blaze produced a large amount of smoke that spread into the stairwell and reached apartments on the upper floors. As a result, 11 residents from the higher floors were evacuated, while there were no occupants in the fire-affected apartment at the time of the incident.

Last week, police announced the arrest of one individual connected to the fire, who is suspected of deliberately setting the blaze. The investigation is being conducted as a serious case of property destruction. More updates on the situation will follow.
