Former national pharmacist charged in Faroese court

The former national pharmacist, Hjalti Gunnarstein, has been charged, according to Kringvarp Føroya. The Patient Safety Authority reported the case to police.

The prosecution has submitted the case against the former national pharmacist to the Faroese court. The indictment will not be available for inspection for another week, and prosecutors will not comment before then on what Gunnarstein is charged with.

The case was initially referred by the chief medical officer, Lars Fodgaard Møller, who asked the Patient Safety Authority to assess it following an inspection. The authority considered the case serious enough to report it to police.

Møller declined to comment further.

Documents obtained by Kringvarp Føroya show that Gunnarstein could have expected to be dismissed from his position when he resigned on February 17.
