Minister paid 30,000 kroner for report that came too late

Business Affairs Minister Jacob Vestergaard and the Ministry of Business Affairs paid Annfinn V. Hansen 30,000 kroner for a legal memorandum that concluded the administration was wrong, Kringvarp Føroya reports. But the memorandum arrived too late to affect the case.

Vestergaard wanted to defend the rights of the leaseholder in Skálavík and sent an instruction to the Agricultural Agency ordering it to withdraw from the case immediately. However, his own administration disagreed with him, forcing him to withdraw the instruction.

Vestergaard nevertheless stood by his position and demanded an external assessment of the case. Hansen completed the assessment shortly before Ólavsøka, concluding that Vestergaard was right and the administration was wrong.

The invoice amounted to 24,000 kroner plus VAT. However, by the time the conclusion was delivered, the case had already been processed. Vestergaard can now only wait for it to return to his desk.
