New swimming pool opens at sports centre in Garðabær

Urriðaholtslaug, a new swimming pool in Garðabær, formally opened with a pool party, mbl.is reported. The pool is part of the Urriðaholt Sports Centre, which also opened to the public at the same event beside Urriðaholt School.

Garðabær Mayor Almar Guðmundsson spoke at the opening. Swimming balls were shot across the pool to mark its official opening.

Urriðaholtslaug will be open to the public at weekends and on weekdays from 6.30am to 8am and from 6pm to 10pm. During school hours, the indoor pool will be used for school swimming.

The facility includes an infrared sauna, an indoor pool, a hot tub and a paddling pool.

Garðabær already had two public swimming pools, Ásgarðslaug and Álftaneslaug. Swimming pools at Sjáland School and Mýrin also exist, but are not open to the public.
