The annual maintenance outage at Olkiluoto 3, Finland’s largest nuclear reactor, began on Thursday and is expected to last 50 days, Yle reports. The work is scheduled to finish by the end of October.
The outage includes the annual replacement of uranium fuel, necessary repairs and maintenance, and possible modification work.
According to TVO, the autumn timing is linked to extending Olkiluoto 3’s operating cycle to 18 months. The reactor was last serviced in spring 2025, and its next annual maintenance is planned for March 2028.
The annual maintenance outages at Olkiluoto 1 and 2 were completed earlier this year. Outages at the Olkiluoto plant often push electricity prices higher.
