New swimming pool opens in Garðabær

A new swimming pool and the Urriðaholt sports centre will open to the public on Thursday, mbl.is reports, citing a statement from Garðabær.

A pool party will be held from 4pm to mark the formal opening of the sports centre. A zumba class will begin at 5pm, while visitors will be offered free ice cream and coffee after swimming. The pool will remain open until 10pm.

The sports centre includes an indoor pool, an infrared sauna, a hot tub, a wading pool and a sports hall.

Residents of Urriðaholt, a district of Garðabær, have shown considerable interest in the opening. The pool is part of the third phase of construction of Urriðaskóli and the district’s new sports centre.

The pool will be used for school swimming at Urriðaskóli during school hours. It will also be open to the public on weekdays from 6.30am to 8am and from 4pm to 10pm, as well as at weekends.
