Faroese prime minister sends condolences to Norway’s new king

Faroese Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen has sent a letter of condolence to Norway’s new King Haakon VIII following the death of his father, King Harald V, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Johannesen wrote that the Faroe Islands and Norway are closely linked through history, culture and human relationships. He described Harald V as a symbol of the Norwegian people and of the values and history connecting the two countries.

“On behalf of the Faroese government and people, I wish to express my deepest condolences following the death of your father, His Majesty King Harald V,” Johannesen wrote.

He also offered strength and comfort to Queen Sonja and the entire royal family, adding that the Faroe Islands stood with the Norwegian people during their difficult time.
