More than half of Finns support banning social media use by children under 15, according to a survey commissioned by the Toivo think tank and reported by Yle. Fifty-three per cent of respondents backed the ban.
Support was highest among supporters of the National Coalition Party and the Finns Party, at 59 per cent in both groups. The proposal was supported by 46 per cent of Green Party supporters and 45 per cent of Left Alliance supporters.
Twenty-eight per cent opposed the ban, while 19 per cent said they could not take a position. There were no significant differences between the views of women and men.
Iro Research conducted the survey in April among 1,000 people. The sample was weighted to reflect Finland’s population by age, gender and region. The margin of error is approximately 3.2 percentage points in either direction.
Toivo is a think tank close to the National Coalition Party.
