Danish Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Smuggling Over 20 Tons of Illegal Doping Substances in Denmark’s Largest Doping Case to Date
Jacob Nordbeck Hansen, a 40-year-old man, was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for smuggling over 20.5 tons of illegal doping substances, medication, and narcotics into Denmark. The case is the largest doping case in Denmark to date, measured by quantity.
Hansen was convicted for several crimes, including smuggling the substances into Denmark, storing large amounts of illegal substances in a warehouse in Kolding, and packaging and reselling large quantities of doping substances, medication, and/or narcotics from the Kolding warehouse since 2019.
The unanimous court decision was reached at the Court of Kolding. Last summer, the police found 400 moving boxes containing a total of eight tons of doping substances, medication, and narcotics in a warehouse in Kolding.
The prosecution believes that the Kolding warehouse has been used for storage and packaging of doping substances, medication, and narcotics since the beginning of 2019. Five men, aged between 36 and 47, have been charged with smuggling and dealing large quantities of these substances or assisting in these activities.
The most serious accusations were directed at a 40-year-old Danish man from Flensburg. Apart from Hansen, four other men were charged for aiding in different ways in the organized trade. One was accused of helping to pack and redistribute illegal substances in the Kolding warehouse. Another was accused of storing packages of illegal substances in his private garage before they were distributed to customers.
The four men received varying sentences, ranging from four months to four years in prison.
