Fishing days for boats in group 5B ran out on Saturday, requiring them to stop fishing at 1pm, but a proposal to grant the group 750 additional days this year is now ready, KVF reported.
The proposal is expected to be submitted to the Faroese parliament on Monday and receive its first reading on Wednesday, Fisheries Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen said.
The allocation of additional fishing days has faced strong opposition, including from Reiðarafelagið and Havstovan. However, the proposal was not changed after the consultation process.
“The content has not changed. But quite a number of consultation responses were received, and parliament can now consider them,” Nielsen said.
