Faroese Minister of Fisheries Bardur a Steig Nielsen plans to propose 750 additional fishing days for group 5B, KVF reports. The proposal is expected to be submitted to the Faroese parliament on Monday and receive its first reading on Wednesday.
Fishing boats in group 5B used up their allocated fishing days on Saturday and were due to stop fishing at 1 p.m.
The proposal has faced strong opposition, including from the Shipowners Association and the Marine Research Institute. However, its content was not changed after the consultation process.
Many consultation responses were received, and parliament can now consider them, Nielsen said.
