Särkänniemi roller coaster shut down after fault detected

Tampere’s Särkänniemi amusement park took its Tornado roller coaster out of service on Wednesday evening after a fault was detected in the ride, the Finnish broadcaster Yle reports.

Maintenance staff are now inspecting the attraction, but no further details on the possible issue have been released.

No passengers needed to be evacuated, as the ride completed its cycle safely before new riders were barred from boarding. The park will only reopen the roller coaster once maintenance confirms it is safe to operate.

The Tornado, opened in 2001, has a track length of 700 metres and reaches a maximum height of 25 metres. It runs two trains, each with capacity for 24 riders.
