Head collision halts traffic on Kuopiontie, one seriously injured

A head-on collision between two cars on the Kuopiontie road between Kuopio and Nilsiä brought traffic to a standstill early Wednesday, Yle reports.

The accident occurred roughly 4–5 km from the Yara factory toward Nilsiä. Emergency services dispatched multiple rescue units to the scene shortly before 7 a.m., with police also present.

One person sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital, according to police. Two people were involved in the crash.

Cleanup and clearance work at the site is underway, with North Savo rescue services directing traffic. Authorities estimate the disruption will last about another hour.
