Heavy rainfall disrupts traffic in Copenhagen due to flooding
Heavy rainfall in Copenhagen on Sunday afternoon is causing significant traffic disruptions across the city. Several road stretches have been closed, notably the Helsingør Motorway, which is shut in both directions between Tuborgvej and Hans Knudsens Plads due to flooding. Authorities anticipate that the motorway will reopen later in the afternoon.
Additionally, the Nordhavnsvej Tunnel in Copenhagen is also closed because of the adverse weather conditions, with expectations for its reopening within the same timeframe.
Copenhagen Police have issued warnings to drivers regarding flooded areas. Duty officer Jonathan Wald cautioned motorists to avoid these locations, emphasizing the dangers posed by rising sewer covers. “You need to drive according to the conditions and stay away from flooded areas,” Wald advised.
The police are currently working to establish roadblocks where necessary, focusing on locations in the city that are prone to flooding. Wald noted that these tend to be the usual low-lying areas where water collects. He further reminded the public that the flooding could include sewage water, urging caution among drivers.
