Organizers of the Tall Ships Races in Aalborg are reviewing security plans following Saturday’s vehicle attack in Berlin that killed one and injured 29, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
The event, expected to draw around 750,000 visitors from Thursday to Sunday, will see leaders meet with police and emergency services on Monday to assess safety measures.
Security chief Palle Nielsen said the Berlin incident has prompted an additional review of existing plans. “When something like this happens, we have to go through our security arrangements with a fine-tooth comb,” he told DR.
Concrete barriers and other separations will be used to divide vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Nielsen stressed that while no event can be 100% secure, extensive preparations have been made.
“People can safely attend the Tall Ships Races in Aalborg,” he said. “Everything possible has been done to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.”
