Eight held in Faroese custody over major cocaine case

Prosecutors in the Faroe Islands are holding eight people in custody following a major cocaine investigation, local broadcaster KVF reports.

Three young people, two men and one woman, are accused of involvement in the largest cocaine case in Faroese history. They were arrested in May and charged with smuggling at least five kilograms of cocaine into the islands. According to the charges, they sold 4,437 grams, while police seized 666 grams.

Three men are charged with sexual offences. Two others are in custody for particularly serious and violent crimes, including attempted arson, threats, and robbery. Prosecutors have already filed indictments in these cases.

The offences are so severe that prosecutors will seek a jury trial and push for convictions. No date has been set for the jury proceedings. All those detained have denied the charges or indictments.
