Residents in Iceland are bracing for a period of inclement weather as a second deep low-pressure system approaches the country. Strong winds are expected to affect the southern regions today and tomorrow, especially following the severe gusts that disrupted many camp-goers at the national festival yesterday.

The low-pressure system that caused intense winds in the south has moved southwest but is being replaced by another deep low that is anticipated to bring widespread poor weather conditions across the country. Meteorologists predict that wind gusts of up to 35 to 40 m/s may be experienced in areas like Öræfi near Svínafell and Skaftafell from noon until evening. Similar gusts are expected in Mýrdal and parts of the Eyjafjöll mountain range later in the day, with an easterly wind developing.

Alongside the wind, significant rainfall is projected in the southeast, Eastfjords, and Westfjords, with particularly heavy downpours anticipated this evening, overnight, and into most of Monday. Yellow weather warnings for wind and precipitation will take effect later today, extending into tomorrow.

After midday on Monday, the low-pressure system is expected to weaken, reducing winds in the south and east, while a north-easterly gale is anticipated in the northwest, posing risks for vehicles exposed to severe winds.
