Man sentenced to over 10 years for fatal assault on partner in Espoo

A court in western Uusimaa has sentenced Stevo Nedic to more than 10 years in prison for the fatal assault of his partner in Espoo.

According to the district court, Nedic struck his partner in the head with a metal bar and weight plate between 27 February and 3 March 2026, causing a skull fracture over 10 centimetres long. The blow to the centre of the forehead indicated intent, the court ruled.

The victim, left untreated at home for days, suffered severe injuries including a skull fracture, a serious traumatic brain injury, burns on the lower limbs, and bruising. Emergency services were called only on 3 March. The woman died in hospital about a month later.

The court found that Nedic must have considered death a likely outcome of his actions, meeting the criteria for manslaughter. The sentence reflects the severity of the violence, the prolonged suffering caused by the delay in seeking help, and the domestic nature of the abuse.

No motive or premeditation was established. The victim had reported at least two prior assaults by Nedic to paramedics and hospital staff before her death.
