Police and insurers report a sharp rise in bag thefts from bicycles in Copenhagen, with nearly 2,000 cases already recorded this year.
Københavns Politi said it had received 1,807 theft reports in 2025 and 1,300 so far in 2026. Three of Denmark’s largest insurers confirmed the same upward trend.
Officials advise cyclists to secure bags tightly to frames or handlebars and to keep valuables close to the body. Using a backpack or a locked rear rack bag is also recommended.
Police urge extra vigilance at traffic lights, where thieves often strike while riders are stationary.
