Lokaltog hires more staff and tightens safety after accident

Lokaltog will hire 10 new train drivers by 1 August and adjust its summer timetable to improve operational resilience following a head-on collision on the Gribskov line that injured 18 passengers in April.

The nordsjælland regional rail operator said in a statement that it is implementing a series of measures to strengthen safety and service after months of disruption that included a three-day staff sick-out that forced cancellations.

Among the initiatives are increased training on emergency call procedures after investigators found the emergency button had not been pressed before the accident. The company also plans to upgrade equipment, expand training programs, improve working conditions and add staff to its operations control centre.

“Over recent months we have worked intensively both on the challenges we already knew and on the lessons from the Gribskov accident,” said Stig Allan Nielsen, operations director at Lokaltog. “We are continuing to strengthen staffing and develop the organisation in close cooperation with our employees.”
