Police urged to be notified directly over illegal substance use at G! festival

The Faroese police are advising the public to contact law enforcement immediately if they witness illegal substance use at public events. The recommendation follows an incident at the G! festival in Tórshavn where three young people were filmed snorting a white powder in a public area.

Barbara Djurhuus, a festival attendee, posted the video on Facebook and questioned whether bystanders should intervene. Varapolitiinspektørur Heri Andreasen emphasized that the safest course is to report such activity directly to the police rather than confronting the individuals involved.

The G! festival management has stated that staff did not intervene in the incident, as event organizers are not responsible for policing illegal behavior. The festival’s leadership has also noted that security personnel are not equipped to handle such situations.

The Faroese police have jurisdiction over substance-related offenses under Faroese law.
