Denmark considers extradition of activist Paul Watson requested by Japan

Denmark faces a decision regarding the potential extradition of prominent activist Paul Watson, as requested by Japan. This matter has gained attention from various public figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who has urged Denmark to act accordingly. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard commented on the situation, highlighting Denmark’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and its dedication to effective international cooperation concerning the prosecution of criminal offenses.

The charges against Watson stem from two incidents that occurred in February 2010 in Antarctic waters. Japan accuses him of burglary, property damage, obstruction of commerce, and personal injury in connection with actions taken against a Japanese vessel during those incidents.
