Danish police recorded 1,367 reports of SMS scams, or “smishing,” in June, the highest monthly figure since tracking began, according to data from the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK).

The National Centre for Cybercrime (NCIK), a division of NSK, confirmed the surge. June’s total far exceeds previous months, with 445 reports in April and 394 in May. In June 2025, there were 187 reports.

Kresten Munksgaard, head of Prevention, Analysis, and Digital Patrol at NCIK, attributed the rise to criminals sending an unusually high volume of fraudulent texts. These messages often impersonate parking companies like Q-Park and Apcoa, delivery firm Dao, or the Min Læge app, tricking recipients into clicking links and sharing personal details.

Munksgaard noted that actual scam activity is likely higher, as many recipients do not report attempts if they avoid falling victim. He advised against clicking links in unsolicited texts or emails, urging users to verify information by visiting official websites directly.

Investigating these cases is challenging for police, especially when no financial loss occurs. A monetary trail can sometimes aid investigations, but without it, solving cases is difficult.

Data collection began in January 2022, using search keywords in the police case management system Polsas. The method may not capture all reports, introducing some uncertainty into the figures.
