Molslinjen sets record for electric ferry crossings this summer
Danish ferry operator Molslinjen will run nearly 58 percent of its summer departures on electric power this year, up from 25 percent in 2025, the broadcaster DR reports.
The shift marks the company’s most electric summer season to date, with several vessels operating fully electric for the first time during peak demand. Despite the move away from expensive diesel, ticket prices will not drop.
“Ferry tickets won’t get cheaper just because we switch to electricity. We’re talking about investments in the billions here,” said Jesper Maack, the company’s PR and communications chief.
He added that electric operation could help stabilise fares by reducing exposure to volatile oil prices. Molslinjen expects 5.4 million passengers this summer and aims for all routes to be fully electric by 2030.
