A Faroese teacher argues that controlled use of artificial intelligence could help solve some of the difficulties students face in primary schools, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Sigmund Jógvansson, a teacher at Fløtum School, notes that students previously had to research information, compare sources, and work through problems independently—such as writing essays. Now, much of this work is being done by AI, raising questions about how teachers can distinguish between students who truly understand the material and those merely relying on AI assistance.

Jógvansson believes banning AI in schools is not the solution. Instead, he advocates for its use as a tool in education, though he acknowledges it can be difficult to determine where the line between inspiration and cheating lies. He also stresses that decisions on AI use should not be left solely to individual schools but should be addressed at a higher administrative level.

Jógvansson has discussed the topic in greater detail in an interview with Skúlablaðið.
