The Faroese Shipowners’ and Navigators’ Union has called on the national wage council to recognise that the crew of the research vessel Jákup Sverri are entitled to 20% of the profits generated when the ship was chartered to Portugal for marine research last winter, Faroese broadcaster KVF reports.

The demand is one of four labour disputes currently before the Faroese Labour Court. The Physiotherapists’ Union has also filed a claim seeking overtime compensation for hourly-wage physiotherapists, while the Faroese Workers’ Union argues that ground staff at the national airport are covered by its collective bargaining agreement.

Additionally, the Municipal Employers’ Association faces a challenge from the Civil Servants’ Union over a written warning issued to staff in Nes Municipality last August, which the union claims is invalid. The Labour Court will rule on all four cases.
