Women in Iceland nearly twice as likely to complete higher education compared to men
Recent statistics reveal that women in Iceland are nearly twice as likely as men to have completed higher education. In 2023, 43.5% of individuals aged 25 to 34 in the country had obtained a university degree. Of this group, 31.3% were men, while 57.5% were women.
Additionally, almost 38% of this demographic completed upper secondary education, while 19% had only finished their basic education, as reported by Statistics Iceland.
Those residing in the capital region showed a higher likelihood of having completed higher education, with 48.5% holding a degree compared to 33.4% in rural areas.
The proportion of university-educated individuals in this age group in Iceland surpasses the European Union average, which stands at 43.1%. The EU has set a goal for 2030, aiming for 45% of its residents aged 25 to 34 to possess higher education qualifications.
