Swedish MP under investigation for child pornography offences
A sitting member of the Swedish parliament is under investigation on suspicion of child pornography offences, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.
The politician, who holds multiple senior roles within their party, was taken in for questioning last week by the police unit for special investigations. Officers conducted a search of the MP’s home, seizing several electronic devices now under forensic examination.
Prosecutor Lena Körner of the Special Prosecutor’s Office confirmed a suspect had been interviewed before being released, though the investigation remains active. “The suspicion persists,” Körner said, declining to provide further details.
The case was initiated following a tip from the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which routinely forwards thousands of leads annually to Swedish authorities regarding suspected child sexual abuse material. Court documents indicate the investigation was formally opened in mid-April, with Swedish investigators coordinating with an unspecified foreign agency before the MP was questioned.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office handles cases involving allegations against public officials, including lawmakers, judges, and prosecutors. SVT reported it has attempted to contact both the MP and their legal representative.
