Finland’s Council of State building in central Helsinki will empty its staff by early July as a comprehensive renovation begins, the government announced Wednesday. The project, set to last until 2030, will overhaul the historic structure while improving security and space efficiency.

Cabinet meetings will relocate to the government’s ceremonial premises on Eteläesplanadi, while ministers and senior civil servants will move to adjacent buildings. The shift of most personnel will occur gradually, though top officials will transfer only as the renovation commences.

The National Board of Antiquities will safeguard the palace’s historically significant artifacts and artwork during construction. Some items will be temporarily housed in alternate facilities.
