Scottish tour guide deported after refusing Faroese fine for illegal work

A Scottish tour guide has been deported from the Faroe Islands after refusing to pay a 300,000 krona fine for working without a permit, public broadcaster KVF reports.

The man, who was found to have violated immigration laws, left the country on Tuesday and is barred from returning for two years. Prosecutor Katrin Thorsvig Hansen confirmed that Faroese authorities based the fine on equivalent wage standards in Denmark, as no local benchmark exists.

The case will now proceed to court after the tour guide contested the penalty.
