Danish Dental Association calls for ban on nicotine pouches for young adults

The Danish Dental Association has called for a ban on the use of nicotine pouches by young adults aged 18 to 29. This recommendation follows a survey that confirmed suspicions about significant dental damage among patients due to snus and nicotine pouches.

Danish dentists are reporting various issues, including decayed teeth and damaged mucous membranes, among users of these products.

In the Faroe Islands, similar concerns are evident. Dental health professionals in Klaksvík have observed that children as young as 13 are using nicotine pouches, although no specific statistics are available for their prevalence in the region. Comparatively, data from neighboring countries indicate that about 20% of 15-year-olds use snus.

Dr. Markus Hvannastein, a pediatric dentist, believes that the usage rates among young people in the Faroe Islands are likely similar. He emphasizes the serious consequences of using snus and urges local authorities to take action regarding the rising use of nicotine pouches among children and adolescents.
